Amur Tiger

The Amur tiger always inspired people with interest and respect as one of the largest predators on our planet as well as lion and brown bear. Some he-tigers weigh more than 350 kg. Motions of this graceful cat are soft and smooth, it goes noiseless through taiga thickets, easily coming over abrupt rocks and mountains, and also water hindrances. While hunting, tiger is very patient, it overtakes its prey by small, but often jumps. Its basic feed is wild boar and Manchurian deer.

The Amur tiger concerns to rare and disappearing species. It was on the verge of extinction, but in 1947 hunting on Amur tiger was prohibited, and number of the tiger has gradually increased.

In the Khabarovsk territory Amur tiger inhabits constantly only on the right side of Amur river. Its basic residence is the western slope of the Sikhote-Alin mountain ridge in pools of Khor and Anuy rivers. Another place of residence, isolated from the basic one, is in the pool of the Tagemu river being the left inflow of the Sukpay river. The general area of the natural habitat of Amur tiger in Khabarovsk territory makes 33637 sq.km. Average density of the Khabarovsk part of population was 1,6 animals on 1 thousand sq. km in 1995-1996 and 1,47 animals on 1 thousand sq. km in spring 1998.
