The Ussuri black bear, the white-chested bear, the Himalayan bear of the Asiatic black bear genus (Latin: selenarctos). It is also called a tree-climbing bear as contrary to its relatives it actually lives up on trees. The Ussuri taiga is famous with this white-chested bear so its image is depicted on the coats of arms of the Khabarovsky krai and the city of Khabarovsk.
It is called moon bear for the light-colour white spot the shape of crescent on its chest. The Ussuri white-chested bear is more agile than other bears, the height of a grown-up male reaches usually 2 m, common is 1.5 – 1.7 m, weight close to 150 kg.
Brown bears are grand guards of forest. This beautiful animal is considered the symbol of Russia, its power and courage are impressive. The fur of the famous “taiga master” is very attractive: thick, and evenly coloured. Depending on the habitat this species varies in mass and height. Average bear weighs up from 350 to 600 kilograms. The body length of the black bear is between 1.2 and 2 meters.
